Fluoride Treatment
Dental fluoride treatment is a preventive procedure that helps strengthen tooth enamel and protect against cavities. Here's the process:
Preparation
- The dentist or dental hygienist will clean your teeth to remove plaque and debris.
- Your mouth is dried to ensure the fluoride adheres properly.

Application of Fluoride
- Gel or Foam: Placed in a tray that fits over your teeth for a few minutes.
- Varnish: Painted onto your teeth using a small brush. It dries quickly and is more effective for prolonged contact.
- Rinse: A fluoride mouth rinse may be used in some cases.
Post-Treatment Care
- You’ll be asked to avoid eating, drinking, or rinsing for at least 30 minutes to let the fluoride absorb.
- The fluoride strengthens the enamel, making teeth more resistant to decay.
Who Needs It?
- Children and adults at high risk for cavities.
- People with dry mouth (xerostomia) or weak enamel.
- Those undergoing orthodontic treatment (braces).
