Dental Crowns & Bridges
Dental crowns and bridges are restorative treatments used to repair or replace damaged or missing teeth. Here's an overview of the process for each:
Dental Crowns Process
A dental crown (or cap) is a tooth-shaped cover placed over a damaged or weakened tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance.
01. Initial Consultation
- The dentist examines the tooth using X-rays to assess its condition.
- If necessary, a root canal treatment is done before crown placement.

02. Tooth Preparation
- The tooth is reshaped to make space for the crown.
- If a large part of the tooth is missing, a filling may be needed to build up its structure.
03. Impression & Temporary Crown
- An impression of the prepared tooth is taken to create a custom crown.
- A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth while the permanent one is being made.
04. Crown Placement
- Once ready (typically in a few days to two weeks), the temporary crown is removed.
- The permanent crown is fitted, checked for bite alignment, and cemented in place.
Dental Bridges Process
A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring an artificial tooth (pontic) between two crowns placed on adjacent natural teeth or implants.
01. Consultation & Planning
- The dentist examines the missing tooth area and supporting teeth.
- X-rays and impressions are taken for planning.
02. Tooth Preparation
- The adjacent teeth (abutment teeth) are reshaped to accommodate crowns.

03. Impression & Temporary Bridge
- An impression is taken to create a custom bridge.
- A temporary bridge is placed to protect the exposed teeth.
04. Bridge Fitting & Placement
- The temporary bridge is removed.
- The permanent bridge is checked for fit and bite alignment, then cemented in place.
Aftercare Tips
- Maintain good oral hygiene (brushing, flossing, and using antibacterial mouthwash).
- Avoid chewing hard foods or ice to prevent damage.
- Regular dental check-ups ensure the longevity of the crown or bridge.
